On Friday night I was at the Capernaum Benefit Concert supporting my sweet roommate, Morgan (who, p.s. just got a blog), and heard five sweet friends sing the song “From This Valley.” It was a beautiful, gosh the word beautiful just doesn’t even do it justice, how about… freakin’ awesome (that’s way better) cover of the Civil Wars, complete with harmonica (saaaaay my name). But more than the rockin’ buzz of the harmonica and the beautiful voices singing the tune, my heart was lost in the lyrics.
Won't you take me from this valley
to that mountain high above?
I will pray, pray, pray
until I see your smiling face.
I will pray, pray, pray
to the one I love.
Oh, the caged bird dreams of a strong wind
that will flow 'neath her wings.
Like a voice longs for a melody,
oh, Jesus carry me.
This semester has been the hardest and sweetest of my time at A&M, which blows my mind because my class load was on the lighter side. It has been a continual fight to get out of the valley and up to the mountain. Jesus has carried me. So far, farther than I know. The Lord has been so good to me. This semester was full of the valleys… a hard season in Young Life, an ugly inward battle with Satan and the apathy that comes with spring semester and the Lord was faithful through it all. I have seen the Lord more, felt the Lord more and been stretched more than I could have ever imagined. I have learned the difference between truth and lies, the meaning of wisdom and discernment, and realized that the Lord is sovereign always. My eyes have been opened to the treasure that waits us in Heaven and my world has been rocked by adopting an eternal perspective. Above all else, I have learned that Our God is who He says He is! It makes my stomach ache thinking that I am only one paper away from the end of sophomore year, but praise Jesus because the stretching doesn’t stop. I have no idea what the summer holds but I am going to keep on praying to the One I love.
